Hi, glad to read your post. I am studying and learning how to buy an apartment in UK and attedned some seminars before. It's quite interesting and I think UK properties are good to invest (hope not too late). I have some questions: - which cities you invest ? Are you focus on renting to students ? - how to find good apartments, property agents and letting agency ? I use zoopla and rightmove frequently (and of course google map street view) - do you know how to calculate the exact tax for rental income ? They have VAT, capital gain, etc and it seems they are changing the taxation rules soon to 2020 and no mortgage interest can not be tax exemption. - how to find local banks for mortgage ?
In fact, most of your questions can be found in my blog and my replies to comments, except capital gain tax which depends on one's tax band. In brief the CGT is either 18% or 28%, but the rule is much more complex.
How do you compare Manchester and Birmingham's property markets? Seems you like Manchester more :) Manchester outlook/city development in long term better?
In general, it is easier to get higher rental return in Manchester than Birmingham. However, when the HS2 is completed, Birmingham is only 50 minutes from London. This gives another prospect, but HS2 will not complete before 2026.
